Child Custody GAL Training

Each district has its own training criteria to serve as a Child Custody GAL. The District 18 criteria are the most comprehensive statewide and should therefore prepare applicants to serve in other districts.

To serve as a District 18 GAL, professionals must first complete 24 hours of training in topics related to the developmental stages of children, the dynamics of high-conflict families, the stages and effects of divorce, problem-solving techniques, mediation, and legal issues. We designed our PC training to meet these criteria.

District 18 GALs must also complete 4 hours of specialized training about serving as a Child Custody GAL. The CCP GAL Training meets these criteria and was designed as adjunctive to the 24-hour PC Training.
