Center for Cooperative Parenting (CCP) was founded in response to a 2000 initiative led by Chief District Court Judge Joseph M. Buckner to strengthen support for families involved in high-conflict custody cases.

In 2001, Judicial District 15-B (now District 18) adopted local rules establishing the use of Child Custody Guardians ad Litem (GALs) and Parent Coordinators (PCs), along with a dedicated oversight committee to guide the program’s development. This committee later became CCP’s first Board of Directors.

From the beginning, CCP has played a vital role in helping the courts, professionals, and families navigate the challenges of separation, divorce, and co-parenting. A judicial staff member continues to serve as liaison between CCP and the Chief District Court Judge, tracking appointments and maintaining a roster of qualified GALs and PCs to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
